The scene
What happened at Hobbiton Movie Set
Peter Jackson’s location scouts spotted the Alexander family farm from the air in 1998: rolling hills, a lake and a huge pine tree.
The first set was built from temporary materials. For The Hobbit trilogy it was rebuilt to last, and it’s been open for tours ever since.
