The scene
What happened at Via Veneto
La Dolce Vita made Via Veneto the symbol of Rome’s glamorous nightlife, full of celebrities, gossip columnists and photographers. Marcello’s photographer friend is called Paparazzo, and the name stuck to his whole profession.
The twist for detail-obsessives: many of the film’s Via Veneto nights were shot on a painstaking replica built at Cinecittà, because Fellini wanted total control of the street.

On location today
The avenue is calmer than its 1960s heyday, but the grand hotels, the US Embassy in Palazzo Margherita and the elegant café terraces are still here.

Stand on the outside of the curve near the top of the street and shoot down toward Piazza Barberini.
